Looking after wine
How to store your bottles in a cellar or wine area?
Do you want to fit out a natural cellar or wine area in your living room or store room? Here are some golden rules to follow for storing your wine and creating an area that reflects your style.
The minimum humidity level recommended in a cellar is 65%. You should therefore select materials suited to high humidity levels when choosing storage. Opt for moisture-resistant, high-quality materials such as wood or metal.
Lack of vibration is one of the criteria for optimal wine storage. Opt for solutions which reduce vibration: wooden storage, anti-vibration bottle supports...
Which storage solutions to choose?
The three questions to ask yourself to choose the ideal solution:
- How much space have I got?
- How many bottles must I store?
- Is my room suitable for storing wine?
Storing a large amount of bottles.
Choose robust storage modules which allow you to safely stack your bottles on several levels.
Wooden cases are an interesting alternative, as stacking bottles on top of one another is not always practical in terms of bottle access. Get sliding racks to place your wine cases on. You will then have easy access to your bottles.
Organising bottle storage.
Display your wine labels.
Note that vertical bottle storage is more for wines which will be drunk quickly. For longer term storage, it is preferable to keep your wine bottles flat. This allows the cork to be constantly in contact with the wine, meaning it will not dry out or allow air to penetrate…which gives wine a unpleasant corked taste.
The ideal? Modular storage.
Compete with the most beautiful wine cellars.
You should also choose storage which most closely corresponds to the ambiance you want to create.
Do you want a traditional wine cellar? Choose wooden units.
Do you want a wine cellar with a more contemporary design? Opt for metal storage whose posts are fastened to the wall or ceiling, for an ethereal effect.
The design of a wine cellar also includes lighting. Some wine storage solutions have built-in lighting.
Now, it’s your move.
Wine cellar conditioners.
A cellar conditioner is the key to transforming a well-insulated room into one dedicated to wine storage, guaranteeing a stable temperature and humidity levels and renewing the air.
